Meeting Sebastian…

It’s countdown time and we are busy beavers 🦫 planning our family reunion in July. Tahilla Farm will be busting at the seams with family, friends, dogs and food. It’s rare for us to all be together with our oldest son and his family living in Australia. It’s been six years since their last visit to America, and I think the most of excited of all is my 93 year old mother-in-law who will meet her one and only great grandson for the first time. After so many years living overseas, missing family connections, we are grateful for every moment we get to share together.

Speaking of sharing, it seems a little snake in our garden can’t get enough of me. Every time I settle into the garden to dig, he is there. I want to say he is showing up like a bad penny but he is kind of growing on me which says a lot because I really don’t like snakes. I told Mr. H the only way I will feel comfortable about the snake is if we name him, like I do with all the other wild animals that pop in now and again. He suggested I call it Sebastian.

This afternoon, as I tucked in a row of double white profusion zinnias along the edge of a winter gem boxwood hedge, Sebastian curled up on top of the hedge to sun himself while Tani lounged on the other side of the hedge taking an occasional roll in the grass. It was quite a scene, me and my menagerie of onlookers. I was waiting for Priscilla porcupine to stroll by and stir things up, I am grateful she didn’t!

I am spending extra time in the garden to listen to a book that I am hooked on. It happens every time I tune into one of Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Gamache mystery novels. I am on book #10, The Nature of the Beast. It’s the perfect book for all the gardening adventures I have had lately!

Tomorrow I plan to finish my garden tasks and tackle cleaning out the garage/garden studio. I am in ultimate “nesting mode” as I prepare for the reunion. Mr. H is running for cover, he knows what is coming next. It’s time to organize the basement too!

Thank you for stopping by to read #19 of my June Writing Series. Always a pleasure to hear from you!

Jeanne :))
