Calling art lovers....

MacDowell Medal Day, 2018

Join me…

If you are an art lover, please join me on July 23, 2023, at MacDowell, an artist residency in Peterborough, New Hampshire, to honor esteemed filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin, the recipient of the 63rd Edward MacDowell Medal.

MacDowell, the nation’s oldest artist residency, is open one day a year to the public. Visitors attend a brief award ceremony, enjoy a picnic lunch (available to purchase or bring your own), and, my favorite part, visit the artists-in-residence in their studios.

The day happens, rain or shine, starting with the ceremony at 12:15 pm, followed by Picnic Lunch at 1:15 pm and Open Studios 2:00-4:00 pm.

For those of you unfamiliar with MacDowell, it was founded in 1907 by Edward MacDowell, a composer, and Marian MacDowell, a pianist, in their quest to find a peaceful place to create and share their unique retreat with fellow artists. MacDowell continues to provide a place for artists to work peacefully and harmoniously amongst their peers. Over 8,600 artists have walked through and around this beautiful property's pines, flora, and fauna, where over 30 artists’ studios rest quietly in the landscape.

McDowell is special to me, for it is where I first caught the light of being. It started with a glimpse of a studio nestled in the woods and a bicycle alongside the entrance leading to a simple wooden porch. In the woods, you find the space to contemplate and create. On my first visit to a studio, I stood on the porch and watched the light filter through the trees, and in that moment, I knew the direction I wanted to take our design for Tahilla Farm. To bring the essence of MacDowell into our home and land, to embrace the light of being.

If you have always wanted to visit, now is the time. If you go every year like me, I hope to see you there. I would love to gather with kindred spirits to enjoy this special day. If you want to join me, write to me, and I will fill you in on the details.

I am so so excited!!!
